Quality Control Software
Choosing properly designed quality control software is one of the most important decisions you can make for your plant. Your quality systems will be one of the deciding factors in the failure or success of your company. We believe that the best course of action is to look at solutions that offer extremely flexible architecture. There are many solutions that promote a boxed/canned approach. While these types of systems can be the easiest to setup, in the long run you may regret the decision to work with a program purchased off the shelf. The inability to innovate and take advantage of new business opportunities as they arise can be the major downside of a canned system.
TQM software helps organizations create adaptive quality management systems that span the enterprise. A cooridinated TQM strategy ensures consistant quality accross diverse business units.
Flexible systems can be a better choice. You don't have to build your system from scratch because it comes from a vendor but you can still have systems that will adapt to the culture at your plant(s). Flexible solutions allow you to take advantage of best practices while still being able to create configured screens, reports, graphs etc... that make sense in your situation. We recommend a thin client, browser interface because it is the easiest type of system to implement on the floor. With thin client software your vendor can make changes to your system that are available to your users without the need to re-install software on their machines. Modifications are made and can be rolled out instantly. Another consideration is that your quality control software vendor may not support their product forever. Quite often software vendors are sold or they simply don't support the products that they once sold. Be sure that you check out their capabilities with their past customers. It's also good practice to look at software solutions that offer customizable interfaces that your internal IT department can modifiy if the need arises. Be sure that when choosing a manufacturing system of any kind you really do your homework because there are a lot of choices out there.
